A low evergreen shrub, the pioneer speices Yucca filamentosa is a naturalized succulent. Its seed pods bloom out at the end of May to early June and ripen in August in soft cream-tinted blossoms that tower straight up on slender stalks. The sharply-tipped leaves make it difficult to reach its stem system where it remains hidden below ground level.
